At U/1ST, we believe that feeling good about yourself is what really matters. That's why we want to introduce you to US FIRST: inspiring stories of people who have put themselves first. We hope they will motivate you to be who you want to be. If you'd like to join us, sign up for our newsletter and make sure you don't miss out on this new content. This first publication from US FIRST opens with an interview with Silvia Valero, founder of Caressée. A moment of reflection: We spend our days prioritising many tasks and hordes of people, and suddenly, we realise that the days have turned into months or years. Where does that leave you? Who has taught us many valuable lessons? We live in a world that demands constant attention to everything but the most essential thing: your life. We must take on more than our capabilities (or our humanity) allow, say yes to every apparent opportunity, and achieve perfection in every area of our existence. Stop. A moment of reflection: We spend our days prioritising multiple tasks and hordes of people, and suddenly, we realise that the days have turned into months or years. Where does that leave you? Silvia Valero lived according to what was expected of her for a long time. She followed the logical path but was unable to find herself. Does that sound familiar? |
So, she decided to quit her job to put herself first, not knowing exactly what she would do next. It was a leap into the void, driven by an inner need for change. The pain of staying in the same place was so great that it drove me to take action. Silvia took some time to think about what she wanted and who she was. What became clearest to her (you'll need to jot this down) was that whatever she chose had to align with her values… (...) feminism, nutrition, meditation. It opened my eyes, and I saw the light. From there, even though I didn't have a clear idea of what I wanted to do, I decided that I wanted to create something to empower women. And that's how Caressée was born, a place that helps us find this intimate connection with ourselves and build the life we want. It's amazing how Silvia went from building houses as an architect to helping the rest of us build our own lives. You have our admiration! |
The time to put ourselves first never comes; it gets buried between unfulfilled lists, work (we recommend you start applying the flow state), and other people.
But you have to “listen to that inner voice and act following what it says", as Silvia told us. Your body may be telling you something that you are ignoring. We need to listen to ourselves more and tune into that inner voice. That is how to find ourselves: "Putting yourself first means being aware of who you are and who you want to be, removing the distortions of your history, context and what you have been told you are”. Now is the best time to start (if you haven't already) not just thinking about your well-being but practising it. It is an option and a fundamental necessity for a balanced and fulfilling life. |
Our mental and physical well-being is the cornerstone on which we build our lives. When you take the time to care for yourself, you invest in a better version of yourself. And Silvia has found hers: This process taught me that emotional well-being does not always come from outward stability but from inner authenticity and living in alignment with who you really are.
Investing in your improved self will protect you against burnout, stress, and external factors that do not align with your goals. I found that being in tune with my true essence brought me emotional well-being, even though the path was filled with uncertainty and fear. It may not seem like an easy goal to achieve, but we are here to make it happen. |
If you let Silvia inspire you, it will be much easier for you to start putting yourself first. |

Remember that a well-groomed you is a you that can face life's challenges with greater resilience and vitality. |
